WHAT DO YOU NEED TO MOVE?

Moving, according to various studies, is one of the most stressful operations that a person or a couple can find themselves facing. There are many aspects to consider, more than one can even imagine and predict. That’s why, before starting, it’s important to document and organize your ideas. And that’s why so many people wonder what it really takes to move. If we all agree on the need to get boxes, on other things to have (and to know) there is no shortage of doubts. Let’s start with the first in the list: the permit to occupy public land to be requested, if any, from your municipality.

1) PUBLIC LAND OCCUPANCY PERMIT

The first thing you need for a legal move is the permit to occupy public land. This document must be requested from your municipality of residence (and the one in which the move is completed) if there is a need to park a van or other vehicle along the road, or in any case in a public place. However, it is not required if the land is private and therefore owned by the person who moves or rents the property. Be careful because if the authorization is missing, you may incur penalties: here’s what you risk.

2) BOXES, CARTONS AND PACKING MATERIAL

Impossible to conceive of a move without having a sufficient number of boxes, cartons and packing material with you. There are two scenarios in this regard: the first foresees that the mover is equipped with these tools, in total autonomy, the second falls within the do-it-yourself solutions and leaves the private individual the freedom to obtain the necessary. An advice? Beyond the boxes, we suggest stocking up on cellophane and bubble wrap, essential for protecting fragile objects such as glasses, plates, ornaments and more.

3) CHECK LIST OF THINGS TO DO AND PROGRAM

Before venturing into a move, it is a good idea to make a checklist of the activities to be completed. These activities also include operations not strictly connected to the domestic environment, such as shopping, notifying the neighborhood (see next point), canceling or transferring Internet domiciliation, bills and more. A good action plan is the smartest way to have everything under control and avoid wasting time.

4) THE MOVING NOTICE SIGN FOR CONDOMINIUMS

Another thing you need to move is the warning sign to communicate to the neighbors that the moving works will take place on that date (or days) (works that may also include changes to the furniture, holes in the walls, dismantling of equipment, etc… this warning sign is above all a courtesy gesture, but it is also a duty towards one’s neighbors. In case of doubts about what to write and how to proceed, we recommend contacting the condominium administrator: a request via email or by telephone is the best way to protect yourself.

5) DRILL, SCREWDRIVER, PLIERS: USEFUL ACCESSORIES

If you have turned to a moving company, you will certainly have delegated most of the tasks to the company’s operators and porters. However, this does not mean that you will have to completely exclude the possibility of carrying out some small work on your own, such as disassembling a shelf or removing a couple of screws from the wall. In order not to make mistakes, it is good to always have drills, screwdrivers, pliers and various DIY accessories with you. You could thus optimize times and be of help to the team.

6) BABY SITTER, GRANDPARENTS AND FRIENDS AT YOUR FINGERTIPS

Complex removals of large apartments or large families can really turn into logistical challenges worthy of a film. In order not to find yourself in total chaos, it is advisable to coordinate your programs and movements with babysitters, grandparents, friends and work colleagues. A hand in the most delicate moments can really make the difference, especially if you have children, fragile people or even just animals to look after. Getting organized beforehand is important for yourself but also for others who, given due advance notice, will in turn be able to keep themselves free from any commitments.
